Southern Indiana results, scoring highlights and other tidbits from the first day of the Best of the Midwest:
- Spiece Indy Heat got past Indiana Elite Red 83-66 behind 13 points from both New Albany’s Donnie Hale and Jeffersonville’s Kegan Clark. In the loss, Seymour’s Matt Trimnell led Red with 13.
- Trimnell, a 6-foot-3 forward, said Belmont is his newest college suitor. He plans to visit both Belmont and Western Kentucky in August.
- Fieldhouse Elite Team Indiana, which features the Bloomington North duo of Zoul Ballman and Julian Boatner, fell 59-57 to Team Blaze Select. Ballman netted eight points.
- Team Southern Indiana 2010 Red nipped the Indy Magic 60-57. Corydon’s Garett Ross and New Albany’s Tate Rohlfing led TSI with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
- Team Southern Indiana 2012 shellacked the Spiece Gym Rats (Tapp) 72-27. Scottsburg’s Max Clemons led TSI with 17 points, Switzerland County’s Keegan Kincaid added 13 and West Washington’s Clayton Sullivan 10.
- Team Southern Indiana 2010 White held off Noblesville’s high school team 69-61. Switzerland County’s Brennan Bragg and Silver Creek’s Cody Jackson each totaled 16 points, and Jeffersonville’s Jordan Todd added 12.
- Team Southern Indiana 2011 lost 81-69 to JSA Storm (Ind.). Jeffersonville freshman Darryl Baker poured in 30 points and his Red Devil teammate, Jordan Ellis, chipped in 10.
- Spiece Indy Heat blasted Team Blaze Select 74-36 behind 10 points from Clark and eight from Hale.
- Indiana Elite Red rebounded in their second pool game with a 74-60 win over Fieldhouse Elite Team Indiana. Trimnell again led Red with 30 points, and Bloomington South’s Kyle Fletcher netted 12. Fieldhouse Elite got 19 points in the loss from Bloomington North’s Julian Boatner.
- TSI 2010 Red finished day one with a 2-0 record, beating MBA Select (Oh.) 72-67. Ross totaled 14 and Conder 11 for TSI.
- The Spiece Northwest Stars hammered TSI 2010 White in their second pool game 86-57. For TSI, Bragg scored 16 points and Paoli’s Logan Laswell contributed 13.
- TSI 2011 kept it close versus the Spiece Indy Stars, who won the 16 and under gold bracket of the Kentucky HoopFest last week. Baker again put on a show, racking up 27 points. The Ellis twins (Jonathan and Jordan), also of Jeffersonville, each added 14.
