January 25, 2011

Donnie HaleDonnie Hale, a New Albany 2010 graduate and Purdue recruit, swished a 65-foot shot at the buzzer to force overtime and ultimately push his Bridgton Academy (Maine) prep team to an 87-80 victory over Phelps Academy (Pa.) last Friday in the first-round of the Pride’s Corner Founders’ Tournament in Oakdale, Conn.

Hale also led Bridgton in the scoring column, finishing with 18 points.

“(Hale’s) shot was incredible,” Bridgton coach Whit Lesure said. “You could see Donnie line it up and shoot it like he was going to make it. My hat off to him for the mental toughness to play in the final second.

St. Thomas More School, the tournament host, got past Bridgton 80-62 Saturday to capture the championship.
