Previously unbeaten Barr-Reeve, ranked No. 2 in Class A, dropped a shocking one-point decision to Borden, 29-28, in today’s second semifinal at the Class A West Washington Regional.
Erin Mikel totaled 15 points for Borden, which led 19-10 at halftime. Barr-Reeve was paced by Jenna Knepp‘s 15.
+ Northeast Dubois 50, Tecumseh 42: Trailing 10-7 after the first quarter and 18-14 at halftime, the No. 5-ranked Jeeps mustered a comeback to upend the Braves. Nicole Dodd topped Northeast Dubois with 16 points, and Mariah Seng added 10. Tecumseh was led by Auriel Trible‘s game-high 22 points.
+ Borden (18-6) will face Northeast Dubois (20-4) tonight at 8:30.
CLASS 4-A AT BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE
+ Bedford North Lawrence 59, Castle 38: The Stars throttled the Knights from the get-go, leading 21-9 after the first period and 39-18 at halftime. Alli Matlock led Bedford with 19 points, and Zuri Sanders poured in 17 for Castle.
+ Columbus North 49, Greenwood 42: The Bull Dogs extended their lead to 10 points at 42-32 midway through the final period and held off the Woodmen down the stretch.
+ Bedford (23-2), which has won 13 games in a row, will meet Columbus North (21-3), the winner of 17 straight, tonight at 8p.m.
CLASS 3-A AT BROWNSTOWN
+ Madison 51, Gibson Southern 40: After trailing 6-0, the Cubs went on an 9-2 run late in the first quarter and never looked back, advancing over the Titans. Madison got 23 points from Kelsey Block, while Rachel Sensmeier totaled 20 for Gibson Southern.
+ Jasper 62, Scottsburg 51: Megan Sternberg turned in 21 points and freshman Madison Ubelhor chipped in 16 as the Wildcats surged back from a 28-21 halftime deficit to take a 40-39 third-quarter lead. The Warriorettes were led by Jill Romero (17 points) and Katie Wampler (16). Jasper junior Shelby Merder, a 6-foot-3 interior force who’s already attracting serious Division I interest, left the game near the close of the first half with a leg injury; her status for tonight’s final is unknown.
+ Madison (17-7) and Jasper (19-6) will tangle in tonight’s 7:30 final.
CLASS 2-A AT PAOLI
+ Evansville Mater Dei 51, Sullivan 35: The top-ranked Wildcats got 20 points from standout Maura Muensterman and beat the No. 8 Golden Arrows. Casey Johnson added 13 points and Ashlynn Spahn 10 for Evansville Mater Dei, which will try for its first-ever regional title tonight. Sullivan was led by Caelan Jones‘ 18 points, and Indiana State recruit Rhagen Smith finished with 11.
+ Paoli 55, South Ripley 54: A put back basket with less than three seconds remaining lifted the Rams over the Raiders, which had an eight-point lead at halftime.
+ Mater Dei (24-1) and Paoli (19-6) will battle at 8p.m. for the regional crown.
