NASSAU, Bahamas — Kooper Jacobi and the Toledo Rockets completed a successful trip to the Bahamas with a 79-70 win over Coastal Carolina to claim the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship title Wednesday.
Jacobi, a Silver Creek graduate, went 1 for 5 from the field for 2 points in the win. He also had 3 rebounds and a steal in 8 minutes off the Rocket bench.
Toledo (5-1), which defeated Charlotte and Tulane in the tournament’s first two rounds, shot just 32.4 percent (12 for 37) in the first half and was deadlocked with the Chanticleers at 34-apiece at the break.
Jacobi’s dunk with 5:22 left tied the game at 63-63 and kickstarted a 15-0 game-changing run.
Sophomore guard Ryan Rollins had a career night for the Rockets with 35 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Rollins went 12 for 20 from the floor and made 4 of his 5 3-point attempts in the win, which is the third straight for Toledo. Junior forward Setric Millner Jr. added 15 and junior forward JT Shumate contributed 10 to the win.
Coastal Carolina was led by Essam Mostafa, who had 23 points and 9 rebounds in defeat.
Toledo returns to Savage Arena Monday when they host Northwestern Ohio. Jacobi and the Rockets can be seen on ESPN 3.
