HANOVER — Hanover used balance and strong defense to win for the fifth time in five games, 75-64 over visiting Bluffton on Saturday.
The Panthers are 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by sophomore Matt Munoz (Indianapolis) and sophomore Max Greenmoyer (Zionsville), who finished with 17 points apiece. Munoz also had 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocked shots.
New Albany graduate Isaac Hibbard added 16 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Hanover. The senior was 7 for 14 from the floor in the win.
Junior Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) contributed 11 points, sophomore Ryan Morris (McCordsville) had 8 and former Christian Academy star Noah Williams had 4. Williams, a senior, also had 3 boards.
The Panthers trailed 14-7 early, but Greenmoyer’s 3-pointer put Hanover ahead 15-14. Hibbard’s layup with 9:28 left in the half gave the Panthers a 21-19 advantage. With the game tied at 22-aside, another Greenmoyer 3 started a 19-11 run to end the half. Hibbard’s layup at the buzzer put the Panthers ahead 41-33.
A Munoz 3 — on a Hanover fastbreak — gave Hanover its largest lead at 50-36. Hibbard’s 3 with 12:25 left gave the Panthers a 57-40 advantage. That was Hanover’s largest lead of the contest.
Bluffton’s Jameel Cosby (Springfield, Ohio) led all scorers with 28 points. The senior also had 10 rebounds in defeat.
Hanover will try to make it 6 for 6 on Saturday when it goes to Defiance to face the Yellow Jackets. The HCAC contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
