Hanover beats Engineers to stay on top of HCAC standings

HANOVER — Hanover held visiting Rose-Hulman to 35.4 percent shooting and forced 13 turnovers in a defensive-minded 55-43 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday at Collier Arena.

The victory gives the Panthers a season sweep of Rose-Hulman and increases their winning streak to seven games. Hanover (14-2, 10-1) has a 2-game lead over Anderson atop the HCAC standings.

Junior forward Ty Houston (Union, Ky./Cooper) led the way Wednesday for the Panthers. He finished with 20 of Hanover’s 55 points, adding nine rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal. New Albany graduate Isaac Hibbard, a senior, added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Former Christian Academy standout Noah Williams was 0 for 3 and went scoreless in 5 minutes.

The Fightin’ Engineers are now 10-6 overall and 6-4 in HCAC play. They were led by senior forward Trey Wertz, who finished with 10 points. The Panthers held Rose-Hulman’s leading scorer, junior guard Max Chaplin, to two points. The Engineers were 0 for 5 from behind the 3-point arc.

The Panthers have a couple day off before hosting Defiance (7-8, 5-4) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Yellow Jackets defeated Mt. St. Joseph (Ohio) 67-60 on the road Wednesday.
