Former New Albany and Indiana University star Romeo Langford contributed nine points in 19 minutes as the Celtics led 28-16 after one quarter, 44-31 at halftime and 76-56 through three quarters.
Langford went 3 for 7 from the floor, 1 for 3 from behind the 3-point arc and 2 for 4 at the foul line in the victory.
The Celtics, who are now 29-25 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, were led by 24 points from Jayson Tatum. Former Kentucky star Hamidou Diallo and second-year pro Saddiq Bey scored 21 apiece to lead Detroit.
Boston goes to Orlando on Sunday to face a 12-41 Magic team that has the worst record in the NBA but has won three of it last four and four of its last six games. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
