Floyd Central moved up three spots to No. 9, entering the top 10 for the first time this season, in the Indiana Basketball Coaches’ Association poll after beating No. 7 Cathedral (14-5) 48-46 on Saturday. The win was the Highlanders’ ninth straight.

Earlier in the week, Floyd (14-2) won 53-36 at Bedford North Lawrence to win the Hoosier Hills Conference championship for the second straight season. Cathedral dropped to No. 7 from last week’s spot at No. 4.

The Highlanders, who played 2-time defending Class 3A champion Silver Creek (7-9) on Tuesday, are the only local team of the 38 programs that received votes in the poll, which was released Sunday. Floyd is also the only regional team in the top 20. However, Bloomington North (13-3), Bloomington South (13-5), Columbus North (13-5), Terre Haute North (17-2) and Linton-Stockton (16-2) all received votes.

Unbeaten Chesterton (17-0) remains No. 1 and received all 20 first-place votes. The remainder of the top 10 is Fishers (15-2), Carmel (13-4), Homestead (14-5), Ben Davis (14-5), North Central (14-4), Cathedral, Indianapolis Tech (16-3), Floyd Central and Valparaiso (16-3). Eleven of the top 20 teams are from the Indianapolis Metro area.
