Heidbreder, a freshman from Floyd Central, went 2 for 3 from the field and 5 for 7 at the free throw line in the victory. With a second remaining, Heidbreder hit two clutch free throws to give the Falcons an insurmountable 4-point lead.
Senior guard A.J. Walker led the Falcons with 15 points and four rebounds. Freshman Myron Amey Jr. led the Spartans with 18 points, four steals and three rebounds. San Jose State (8-13, 1-17) has lost 16 of its last 17 games.
The Falcons will be the 10th seed in the upcoming Mountain West Tournament. The opponent will likely be Utah State (16-14, 7-10), which split a pair of games with Air Force this season.
