ROMEO TRACKER | Langford scores 7 in San Antonio debut, Spurs beat Lakers

SAN ANTONIO — In his long-awaited San Antonio Spurs debut, former New Albany and Indiana University star Romeo Langford scored seven points and the helped his new team beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-110 at the AT&T Center on Monday evening.

Langford, who has been dealing with a groin injury, went 3 for 4 from the field and the Spurs outscored L.A. by 13 points while he was one the floor.

Langford entered at the 5:04 mark of the first quarter and scored his first points as a Spur on a driving layup. On the next possession, the 2018 Indiana Mr. Basketball, Langford had a driving dunk to put San Antonio on top 28-22 with 48.5 seconds left in the first. His final basket came on a long 2-pointer with 8:44 on the clock in the second period. That basket gave the Spurs a 41-30 advantage.

Langford played in the third quarter and early in the fourth but was reportedly on a minutes limitation and didn’t the final 11 minutes. San Antonio outscored the Lakers 22-18 in the fourth quarter to pull away and end its 4-game losing steak.

Dejounte Murray led the Spurs with 26 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in the win. With 18 points, Talon Horton-Tucker paced the Lakers, who were without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Russell Westbrook finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for L.A.

The Spurs (25-40), who are now 12th in the Western Conference and a game-and-a-half behind New Orleans (27-37) in the final playoff spot, host the Toronto Raptors (34-30) at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
