BOYS’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK | Kaelin helps Pioneers win sectional, named MVP

Junior guard Casey Kaelin scored 33 points and helped Providence capture its second sectional title in three years with a pair of wins last week to earn this week’s Hoosier Hills Hoops Boys’ Player of the Week honor.

First, Kaelin had an 18-point, 5-rebound, 2-assist, 1-steal performance in the Pioneers’ 56-26 semifinal win over Switzerland County on Friday. He followed that with 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in Providence’s 56-32 victory over host and defending champion Southwestern in Saturday’s championship game.

Kaelin and the Pioneers will face 2A power and fifth-ranked Linton-Stockton (22-4) in Saturday’s regional semifinal at Southridge. The winner will play Forest Park (14-10) or Paoli (16-9) for the regional championship Saturday evening.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Brady Dunn, Christian Academy: Dunn averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals during the week and scored 23 points in a 53-51 loss to host Borden in Saturday’s Class A sectional championship game.
Jacob Cherry, Eastern: Cherry scored 33 points, going 15 for 16 from the floor, and grabbed 11 rebounds in a pair of games for Eastern at the Tell City Sectional last week. He went 7 for 8 from the floor and scored 15 points in the Musketeers’ 68-61 overtime loss to Paoli in Saturday’s championship game.
