After going 6-18 last year, the Scottsburg Warriors are the surprise team of the early part of the 2021-22 season.
There was certainly buzz coming out of Scottsburg about the this year’s team, but few expected the Warriors to start the season with a 29-point win over Austin, a 19-point win over Eastern, which had buzz of its own entering the season, and a 35-point road win at Charlestown.
The Mid-Southern Conference wins over Eastern and Charlestown — by a combined 54 points — makes the Warriors the Hoosier Hills Hoops Team of the Week.
“Having a young team we talked about having a good start to the season, especially getting off to a great start because both games last week were Mid-Southern conference games,” second-year Scottsburg head coach Eric Richardson said. “We are happy with the start we have had, but we know we have a lot areas that need improvement.”
Last week, senior Hayden Cutter led the Warriors at 14 points and 4 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Kody Clancy averaged 11.5 points and 2.5 assists, freshman Colby Hall contributed 9.5 points and 4 rebounds and sophomore Jack Miller averaged 7 points and was the Warriors’ Defensive Player of the Week.
Scottsburg had 14 assists in both wins.
