Coleman, Pack increase winning streak to five

RENO, Nev.Tre Coleman and the Nevada Wolf Pack pulled away from Loyola Marymount late and won their fifth straight game, 68-63 at the Lawlor Events Center on Saturday night.

Coleman, a sophomore from Jeffersonville, came off the bench for the second time the season and scored 4 points on 1 of 6 shooting. He also had 6 rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.

Coleman’s layup — just moments after first entering the contest — put get the Pack within 10-6 with 15:54 to go in the first half. Two minutes later, his two free throws gave Nevada (6-4) a 13-10 lead with 13:35 on the first-half clock.

The Wolf Pack pushed their advantage to 35-28 at the half, but the Lions went on a 20-13 run to tie the game at 63 following two free throws by senior Eli Scott with 1:39 remaining.

Junior center Will Baker’s dunk gave Nevada a 2-point lead with 39 seconds left and junior guard Kenan Blackshear drained two clutch free throws with 31 seconds to go. Junior forward Warren Washington clinched the victory with two more foul shots with 21 seconds remaining.

Nevada’s leading scorer, junior guard Grant Sherfield, led all scorers with 24 points. He also led the Pack with 4 assists. Baker added 13 points and junior Desmond Cambridge Jr. had 10.

Junior forward Keli Leaupepe paced the Loyola Marymount (6-5) with 20 points. Nevada held the Lions to 37.5 percent shooting (21 for 56).

Nevada will try to make it six in a row when it hosts Grand Canyon (10-2) on Tuesday at 10 p.m. local time. The Antelopes have won seven of their last eight and handed San Francisco its first loss of the season Saturday evening.
