TSI Spring League: Boys’ Elementary 2nd/3rd Grade Division — Week 1

Week one scores and highlights from the Team Southern Indiana Spring Basketball League Boys Elementary 2nd/3rd Grade Division at Sellersburg Nolan Fieldhouse:

Wildcats 30, Cardinals 4: Crothersville’s Joshua Thomas put in 10 points as the Wildcats blew past the Cardinals.

Boilermakers 24, Hoosiers 18: Utica’s Caleb Mason totaled nine points to lead the Boilermakers past the Hoosiers.

Hoosiers 22, Cardinals 13: Pleasant Ridge’s Ty Crace and St. Paul’s Kooper Jacobi each scored six points to pace the Hoosiers over the Cardinals.

Wildcats 18, Boilermakers 15: Thomas again led the Wildcats to victory, scoring 12 points as his team edged the Boilermakers.

GRBA Easter Classic: Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red, 2014 Red win championship

Team Southern Indiana 2014 Red

Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red got past Team Southern Indiana 2013 Red 68-55 to win the high school division championship Saturday evening at the GRBA Easter Classic at The Basketball Academy in Louisville, Ky.

Edinburgh center Jordan Burton, a new addition this travel season to the 2012 Red squad, paced his team with 16 points. Clarksville’s Aidan McEwen led 2013 Red in defeat with 13.

In pool play, 2012 Red crushed the Dupont Hornets 74-46 behind a game-high 30 points from Silver Creek’s Grant Meyer and pummeled Spiece Basketball 76-50 as Jeffersonville’s Darrl Baker scored 15.

Team Southern Indiana 2014 Red, pictured above, also captured a championship trophy at the one-day Easter Weekend event, winning the freshmen division.

Madison’s Landon Perry, Columbus East’s Bryce Lienhoop, Brownstown’s Chaz Schneider and Salem’s Tanner Wroblewski each finished with eight points to help 2014 Red upend the Southern Kentucky Hurricanes 68-59.

2014 Red scored their biggest victory of the event, however, in the semifinal round, beating a very competitive Spiece Gators group 65-60. Lienhoop scored 13 and Perry, Schneider and Wroblewski added 12 a piece in the win.

Cody Zeller tabbed as Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana

In its 26th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, has announced the 2010-11 Gatorade Boys Basketball Players of the Year for each state.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes each selected athlete.

Cody Zeller selected for McDonald’s All-American Game in Chicago

Cody ZellerWashington senior and IU signee Cody Zeller was selected to participate in the 2011 McDonald’s All-American Game, it was announced earlier this evening on ESPNU.

Zeller, the only selection from Southern Indiana, will play on the West team with fellow Indiana natives Branden Dawson (Gary Wallace) and Marquis Teague (Indianapolis Pike).

The game will be held Wednesday, March 30 in Chicago, Illinois, at the United Center.

Senior Spotlight: Seymour’s Kyle Fellows

Kyle FellowsHoosierHillsHoops.com: The clock is unwinding on your senior season at Seymour. What are your goals for the final weeks of your high school basketball career?

Kyle Fellows: The main thing we’re focused on is getting on a roll these last few games to build confidence going into the tournament. We need to figure out the right formula to win, regardless of the final score. We have been close in almost every game, so we need to get over that hump. Once the tournament starts it is a whole new season and we’re looking forward to a chance at ruining someone’s season. A personal goal of mine would be to impress a college coach and have them give me the opportunity to play at the next level.

Jeffersonville grad Jeremy Kendle recognized as GLVC Player of the Week

Jeremy KendleBellarmine senior Jeremy Kendle, a Class of 2006 Jeffersonville graduate, was named Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s player of the week on Monday.

Kendle totaled a team-high 21 points in Bellarmine’s 103-79 win Friday at West Virginia State, knocking down 5-of-8 three-point attempts. On Saturday, he racked up a game-high 26 points to lead Bellarmine over Charleston at home, 79-59.
