Tournament play is underway at the adidas May Classic in Bloomington, and Team Southern Indiana’s 2011 Red and 2012 Red teams finished day two in a strong way.
Team Southern Indiana 2011 Red
TSI 2011 Red first avenged a loss to Spiece Evansville Basketball Club from last weekend’s AAU State Tournament in Franklin, upending the Evansville group 74-53. In his first game back, Bedford North Lawrence’s Braden Knight, who has been out since the Seymour Sectional battling injuries, totaled 18 points, and New Albany’s Chris Whitehead chipped in 16.
In gold-bracket tournament play, 2011 Red continued their winning ways, beating Spiece Gym Rats (Whitehead) 64-58 at Assembly Hall. New Albany’s Adam Stotts (pictured) racked up a game-high 21 points — including five three-pointers — and Knight added 12.
2011 Red will face Grand Rapids (Mich.) Storm in a second-round match up early Sunday morning.
Team Southern Indiana 2012 Red
Darryl Baker has headlined TSI 2012 Red’s efforts thus far at the AMC, posting 28-plus points in all three contests played.
TSI 2012 Red got past Champaign Heat 63-50 in the final pool game behind a season-high 34 from Baker. And in gold-bracket tournament play, 2012 Red rallied in the second half to defeat All-Ohio Green 66-55, with Baker totaling 28.
2012 Red will face Dorrian’s Pride Sunday morning in the tournament’s second-round.

- MBA Select edged TSI 2014 White in pool play. Jennings County’s Brad Hunt netted 15 points, and Corydon’s Joseph Hinton 13.
- TSI 2013 Red hammered adidas Team Hustle 70-50 to finish 1-1 in 15 and under pool play.
- Washington junior Cody Zeller told the Indianapolis Star Virginia Tech, Texas and Wake Forest are now showing him serious interest.
- TSI 2014 Red nailed the Dayton Nets 78-52 to win their pool. New Albany’s Blaine Weddington and Borden’s Josh Vollstedt each netted 12, and Highland Hills’ Andre Rogers 11.
- TSI 2013 Red finished off Team Ramey 91-59 to advance in 15U silver bracket play. Louisville (Ky.) Ballard’s Lavonne Holland netted 24 points, and Ridge Harris (Columbus East) added 18.
- The Indianapolis Star featured 2011 Red’s Whitehead, writing that football is a possibility for the two-sport star.

Five Team Southern Indiana teams — 2011 Red, 2012 Red, 2013 Red, 2014 Red and 2014 White — and a host of other Southern Indiana teams and players have made the trip to Bloomington and surrounding communities for the 2010 adidas May Classic.
Here are some Southern Indiana highlights from Friday AMC action:
- Darryl Baker, Southern Indiana’s top freshman, netted 17 of 23 free throws and totaled 28 points as TSI 2012 Red got past Club Elite Storm 68-61 in 16 and under division play at Cook Hall, Indiana University’s new state-of-the-art practice facility.
- Minus three starters, TSI 2014 Red fell 56-48 to Indiana Elite Hoopmatics. Madison’s Landon Perry led the team in defeat with 18 points, and Borden’s Josh Vollstedt added 10.
- TSI 2013 Red fell 55-51 to Spiece West in their first pool game.
- Bloomington South sophomore T.J. Bell racked up 21 points as Indiana Meanstreets whipped JSA Express 73-26 in 16 and under pool play. Bell told the Indianapolis Star tonight that he currently holds scholarship offers from Indiana, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State.
- TSI 2011 Red advanced in 17 and under pool play with a forfeit win over the Southern Indiana Aces. The team will face Evansville Basketball Club tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., a rematch from last weekend’s Indiana AAU State Tournament. Bedford North Lawrence’s Braden Knight, who has been out due to injuries since the end of the high school season, will make his debut tomorrow with TSI.
- Fieldhouse Elite 2014 shellacked TSI 2014 White 61-26. Jennings County’s Brad Hunt led TSI with 14.

The July evaluation period for NCAA Division I and II coaches is still over a month away, but Bedford North Lawrence junior Alex Pritchett has already picked up a few additional scholarship offers.
Prichett, who was offered last year by Wright State, now also holds offers from Evansville and IPFW.
“There are quite a few (colleges) that are calling and will be watching this summer,” his father, Jon, told HoosierHillsHoops.com.
Clemson, IUPUI, Navy, Northern Iowa and Western Michigan, among others, have been in regular contact with the 6-foot-8 power forward.

Matt Trimnell, a senior at Seymour and the No. 7 scorer in the state this past season, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at IU East, an NAIA Division II program, starting with the 2010-11 school year.
Trimnell, a 6-4 guard , averaged 24.4 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game. He was seventh in the state in free throw percentage at .879. He also is Seymour’s No. 5 all-time leading scorer with 1,298 career points.
“On paper, he’s the most decorated recruit we’ve ever had,” coach Mark Hester said. “He’s going to have a lot of expectations on and off of the court, but his college career could be as good as he wants it to be in every aspect.”
Trimnell also considered NCAA Division II power Bellarmine University.
“I felt I fit in better with the players and was more accepted than anywhere I visited,” Trimnell said.

The Team Southern Indiana Boys’ High School Spring League continued Sunday at Nolan Fieldhouse. Week two saw Northeast Dubois’ Blake Huebner explode for 30 points and the Bulldogs improve to 4-0 on the season.
Crusaders 68, Sycamores 41: Huebner poured in 30 points as the Crusaders cruised to victory. Andrew Johnson (Orleans) led the Sycamores in defeat with 12.
Bulldogs 55, Boilermakers 51: The Providence duo of Ryan Dixon and Jacob Wethington totaled 24 and 21 points to lead the Bulldogs. West Washington’s Clayton Sullivan scored 24 for the Boilermakers, and Eastern Pekin’s Philip Boudreaux finished with 16.
Cardinals 58, Hoosiers 53: Silver Creek’s Andrew Hoke netted 17 points and Rock Creek’s Keaton Garner added 13 in the Cardinal win. Anthony Dennis (Switzerland County) and Kendall Thompson (Charlestown) each scored 15 for the Hoosiers.
Irish 63, Aces 59: The Irish were led by Jennings County’s Dustin Lawson and Austin’s Dylan McIntosh, who finished with 19 and 17. Springs Valley’s Garrett Stout finished with 14 points and Clarksville’s Billy Edelen added 12 to pace the Aces in defeat.
Boilermakers 68, Crusaders 64: Boudreaux racked up 17 points and Silver Creek’s Zach Ricketts chipped in 15 for the Boilermakers. The Crusaders were led by Caleb Sprigler (Silver Creek) and Huebner, who scored 22 and 18 points, respectively.
Bulldogs 52, Sycamores 47: Dixon netted 18 points to lead the Bulldogs. Garrett Ellis led the Sycamores with 17.
Irish 55, Hoosiers 51: Lawson scored 21 points and New Albany’s Landon Howard added 11 to push the Irish to their first win. Tim Hall (Charlestown) led the Hoosiers in the loss with 21.
Aces 76, Cardinals 50: Edelen scored 22 and Henryville’s Hunter Pyke added 15, and the Aces upended the Cardinals. The Cardinals were paced by Hoke’s 21.

Lanesville senior Bryant Conder will continue his basketball career at Franklin College, his family announced this week.
“It just felt like the best situation for me,” said Conder, who chose Franklin over interest from Depauw, IU Southeast, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Rose-Hulman.
“Coach (Kerry) Prather told me my role in helping bring his program back to the championship level and I’m now in the process of training for that,” he added. “Franklin has a lot of great players returning, and I’m excited to be a part of this team.”
Franklin is a NCAA Division III school located in Franklin, Ind.
