A.J. Adams headed to Arizona junior college

A.J. AdamsJeffersonville senior A.J. Adams has accepted a scholarship offer to attend Eastern Arizona College, Red Devil coach Tim LaGrange confirmed today.

Adams chose Eastern Arizona over a handful of Midwestern junior colleges. He most recently visited John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill., LaGrange said.

Eastern Arizona, a NJCAA Division I junior college, is located in Thatcher, Ariz. Adams will attend the school for one or two seasons before transferring to a four-year institution.

TSI Spring League: Bulldogs top league at 2-0

Team Southern Indiana Boys' High School Spring LeagueThe eight-team Team Southern Indiana Boys’ High School Spring League began Sunday afternoon at Nolan Fieldhouse in Sellersburg. The Bulldogs — comprised of Floyd Central, Madison and Providence players — are the league’s lone undefeated team after the first day of action at 2-0.

Boilermakers 57, Irish 54: New Albany’s Trevor Brown netted 22 points and Eastern Pekin’s Philip Boudreaux chipped in 14 as the Boilermakers held off a late run by the Irish. Jennings County’s Dustin Lawson paced the Irish with 24.

Bulldogs 66, Aces 55: Floyd Central’s Wade Nieoff racked up 20 points and Providence’s Ryan Dixon scored 15 to lead the Bulldogs over the Aces in the opening game for both teams. Springs Valley’s Garrett Stout led the Aces in defeat with 15.

Crusaders 66, Hoosiers 61: Silver Creek’s Caleb Sprigler totaled 20 points and the Charlestown duo of Chris Braun and Joe Wilson each added 17, and the Crusaders upended the Hoosiers. Charlestown’s Kendall Thompson poured in 23 to led the Hoosiers in the loss.

Sycamores 50, Cardinals 47: Silver Creek’s Kole Kemmer and South Ripley’s Brandon Sizemore scored 15 a piece, helping the Sycamores slip past the Cardinals in overtime. Rock Creek’s Jon Ashby netted 15 in the loss for the Cardinals.

Cardinals 80, Crusaders 74: Rock Creek’s Keaton Garner totaled 19 points and Silver Creek’s Andrew Hoke added 17 to lead the Cardinals to their first win. Sprigler and Braun scored 20 and 17, respectively, for the Crusaders.

Aces 67, Boilermakers 52: Billy Edelen and Wes Rittman, both of Clarksville, scored 20 and 17 points, and Salem’s Taylor Banks added 17 as the Aces improved to 1-1 in league play. The Boilermakers were led by Boudreaux’s 15.

Bulldogs 65, Irish 57: Dixon exploded for a league-high 30 points, and the Bulldogs pulled away from the Irish, finishing the day with a 2-0 record. Lawson led the Irish with 21.

Hoosiers 66, Sycamores 46: Thompson got 24 points as the Hoosiers shellacked the Sycamores. Jeffersonville’s Cauldon Feldhaus paced the Sycamores with 13.

AAU State Tournament: Team Southern Indiana 2014 results

The middle school portion of the Indiana District AAU Boys’ State Tournament is being held this weekend at Indianapolis North Central, and Team Southern Indiana has two entries competing in the 14 and under division: 2014 Red and 2014 Yellow.

TSI 2014 Red fell 62-52 to Spiece Indy Ice 2 in their opening game of pool play. Borden’s Garrett Vick scored 11 points, and Parkview’s Cameron Mink and Highland Hills’ Andrew Rogers each added nine.

In their second game of pool play, MBA Select shellacked 2014 Red 54-33. Salem’s Tanner Wroblewski netted 11 points in the loss, and Hazelwood’s Blaine Weddington chipped in 10.

2014 Red was eliminated in the first-round of tournament play 65-60 to Steel City Metro. Wroblewski again led the team in defeat with 14 points, and Lanesville’s Jack Feree tossed in 11.

TSI 2014 Yellow was defeated in both of their pool play contests. The Indy Hoyas beat 2014 Yellow 68-59 in the team’s opener. Henryville’s Devin Richey led the team in defeat with 14 points, Scribner’s Ravon Wright contributed 12 and Crothersville’s Gene Hodge 11.

2014 Yellow couldn’t hold on to a nine point second-half advantage, falling 52-48 to Steel City Metro. Wright poured in 23 points and Richey added 11 in the loss.

Yellow was ousted from the event in the first round of the single-elimination tournament 68-66 by Indiana Select Baylor. Richey racked up 24 points, and Hodge scored 18.

Jackson to Anderson; Martin will play at Rose-Hulman

College commitments continue to roll in from Southern Indiana’s Class of 2010.

Silver Creek’s Cody Jackson will attend Anderson University, a NCAA Division III school located in Anderson. Jackson, who attracted interest from a handful of small-college programs, will join the Ravens after the school’s first-ever appearance last season in the national tournament.

New Albany senior Jordy Martin has also announced his college decision. The crafty point guard will attend Rose-Hulman, a NCAA Division III school located in Terre Haute.

Banet, Laswell announce college choices

Two Southern Indiana stars announced their college intentions today.

Floyd Central senior Cody Banet will attend Indiana University East, located in Richmond. IU East, an NAIA  Division II competitor, plays in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the same conference as IU Southeast.

Banet chose IU East over Ashland, Earlham, Hanover and St. Joseph’s (Ind.), according to the player’s family.

Paoli senior Logan Laswell also confirmed his commitment to Lindsey Wilson, an NAIA Division I school located in Columbia, Ky., Ram assistant Kevin Jones told HoosierHillsHoops.com.

Four Southern Indiana players named to Indiana All-Stars

Kegan ClarkFour true Southern Indiana players were announced today as 2010 Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Stars.

Bloomington North’s Julian Boatner, Jeffersonville’s Kegan Clark, Bloomington South’s Erik Fromm and New Albany’s Donnie Hale were named among the state’s best, and will face the Kentucky All-Stars in a two-game series June 11 and 12

The June 11 contest will be held at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., and the teams will meet again on June 12 in Indianapolis at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Indiana All-Stars will also scrimmage groups of junior stars prior to the Indiana-Kentucky series at locations to be announced.
