Four Mid-Southern Conference teams and Lanesville merited preseason rankings, according to the Indiana’s girls’ basketball coaches.
Defending state champion Silver Creek will start the 2021-22 season ranked No. 2 in the Class 3A ICGSA poll. The Dragons are behind only South Bend Washington, which the Dragons defeated 54-48 in last year’s Class 3A state championship game on Feb. 27.
The Dragons went 25-3 and won their first state championship in program history under 12-year veteran coach Scott Schoen.
Three other MSC teams received votes from the coaches.
Salem, which was the two-time defending regional champion before falling to Silver Creek in last February’s sectional championship, begins the campaign tied for 6th with Evansville Memorial in the 3A poll. The Lions went 20-3 last year, their fourth consecutive 20-win season.

BOSTON — The Chicago Bulls outscored the Boston Celtics 39-11 in the fourth quarter for a 128-114 victory to improve to 6-1 on the season.
New Albany graduate Romeo Langford scored four points on 2-of-4 shooting in the loss. He also had an assist in his 11 minutes off the Celtics’ bench.
First-year Bull DeMar DeRozen led the Chicago comeback with 37 points. He went 15 of 20 from the floor and was one of five Bulls in double figures. Zach LeVine added 26.
Boston, which led 103-89 after three quarters, got 28 points from Jaylen Brown. The Celtics were just 5 for 23 from the field, missing all 8 of their 3-point attempts, in the fourth quarter. The Bulls made 13 of their 16 shots (81.3 percent) in the final stanza. At 6-1, Chicago is off to its best start since 1996-97.
Langford and the Celtics (2-5) has a night off Tuesday before heading to Orlando for a 7 p.m. start against the Magic on Wednesday.

Romeo Langford will spend at least a fourth season in Boston.
Wojnarowski reported Monday that Langford, the 14th selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, has been signed by Boston through the end of the 2022-23 season.
Langford, who has a career scoring average of 2.9 points while battling through injuries at the start of his career, has a career-best 6-point average through three games in 2021-22.
The former Indiana Hoosier star also has nine rebounds, two assists and two steals early in the season in spite of a calf injury. He is shooting 50 percent (4 for 8) from beyond the 3-point stripe.
Boston also picked up the contract of center Grant Williams, who is averaging 9.8 points and 2.3 rebounds. Williams 22nd pick in the 2019 draft.
Second-year players Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith were also signed by Boston through the end of the 2022-23 season, according to Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Nesmith (0.0 point, 1.3 rebounds, 1 assist per game) was chosen 14th overall the same year. Pritchard (3.4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) was the 26th pick in 2020.
Langford and the Celtics (2-4) host the Chicago Bulls (5-1) Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Conference and sectional rivals Silver Creek and Salem will start the 2021-22 season ranked in the top 20 in the single-class Indiana Basketball Coaches Association preseason polls.
Silver Creek starts the season No. 14, while Salem is 19th. The Dragons are the defending Class 3A state champions. They defeated Salem 46-27 for the sectional championship on their way to the state championship. South Bend Washington, which Silver Creek beat to win the state title, is ranked second behind defending 4A champion Crown Point.
North Central, Noblesville, Carmel, Bedford North Lawrence, Penn, Homestead, Westfield and Zionsville round out the top 10.
Silver Creek, which went 25-3 last season, opens its 2021-22 campaign Saturday at Brown County. The Lions, who were regional champion in 2019 and state runners-up in 2020, also starts their season Saturday when they host Seymour.
The girls’ season officially begins Monday night.
